Whiteheads removal procedures
Whiteheads can be effectively removed and prevented by following these practices:
- Steam: Boiling water can be used as a source of steam. By covering the face with a towel and letting the steam open up the pores, whiteheads can be removed.
- Benzoyl Peroxide: This compound by far is the most effective medication known in the treatment of almost all types of acne and whiteheads are no exception. However, benzoyl peroxide has a disadvantage like most of the treatments for acne. Whiteheads can recur once the application is stopped. Therefore, it should be used continuously as long as one is susceptible to developing acne.
- Natural treatments like anti-bacterial oils are quite effective.
- Tretinoin: Marketed under the brand name of Retin-A, Renova and Avita, helps clean the clogged pores. This, just like benzoyl peroxide can cause burning and itching in the area of application.
- Extraction: It is a physical method of whitehead removal. A metallic ring is put around the whitehead and is pressed so that it exerts pressure on it so that the plugged material comes out. It is important to sanitize the skin after extraction.
- Maintaining good hygiene is very important. One must wash the face at least twice every day.
