Acne and exfoliation

Exfoliation is an integral part of acne skin care. People who are prone to acne should exfoliate their skin regularly. This will help keep their complexion smooth and radiant while reducing acne outbreaks. Exfoliation refers to the process of removing dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. The skin has a natural process of exfoliation wherein new skin cells are formed and old cells and sloughed away. However, in people who are more prone to acne, the natural exfoliation process does not work as efficiently as in others. If dead skin cells are not sloughed off, they tend to clog pores and cause bacterial infections and inflammation.

Therefore, it is essential to exfoliate the skin regularly. The best way to do this is by using a gentle face scrub and then cleaning the skin using a cleanser. However, too much exfoliation can worsen acne and leave the skin irritated and inflamed. You do not need to exfoliate your skin daily. Just exfoliate the skin twice a week. Make sure that you do not rub the skin too much. After exfoliating and cleansing the skin, wash it with water and pat dry. Vigorous rubbing with a towel or washcloth can make skin red and irritated.
